PermaLink Cross-certifying my Notes ID for local server01/03/2005
Notes Administration
As I mentioned before, one of my goals for this year is to rewrite the DNP website as a collection of JSP pages. Since the Domino Custom JSP Tags will only access Domino databases on a Domino server (either locally or remotely), I needed to install a Domino server on my laptop. This went fine, kudos to the Domino Server team at IBM/Lotus. One problem I experienced while creating my JSP pages was that I couldn't access certain Notes documents in my local replica after I replicated it with my local Domino server. I figured this problem was due to one or both of the following:
  • creating/modifying these Notes documents with my NuTechs id, and replicating them to my local Domino server, which uses a certifier of "Acme"
  • changing the Body Rich Text field so that the Store contents as HTML and MIME was enabled
    • After a while, I kept getting bombarded with these cryptic messages from Notes whenever I opened the database:

#03:F5Invalid ID TableInvalid Or Nonexistent Document

When the "Invalid Or Nonexistent Document" message appeared, I couldn't even open the database in the Notes client anymore. Yikes!

I figured the easy way to solve this problem was to cross-certify my NuTechs id with the domain used by my local Domino server. Since I had never cross-certified anything before, I was a bit confused as to where to start. In the end, these were the steps I took:
      1. Create a Person document for my NuTechs Notes Name in the Acme Domino Directory
      2. Create a safe copy of my NuTechs id
      3. Cross-certify the safe id with the Acme certifier using the Domino Administrator. This created the Notes Cross-Certificate document in the Acme directory.
      4. Create a Notes Certifier document in the Acme Domino Directory. Copy the Certified Public Key from the Notes Certifier document in the NuTechs Domino Directory and paste it into the new Notes Certifier document in the Acme Domino Directory
That seemed to do the trick. I hate to bore any of you Senior Domino Administrators out there with this stuff, but as a Senior Domino Developer, this stuff gives me the heebie-jeebies!
