After I discovered that the second "music store" I stopped at on Woodward didn't sell music, I decided to check out Royal Oak Books, which was in the same strip mall. The store was fairly well organized (as far as used book stores go), and had a nice selection. I picked up the following items:
- The Tao of Pooh, Benjamin Hoff (1982)
- ESP and You, Hans Holzer (1966)
- The Sayings of Confucius, Translation by James Ware (1955)
I'd seen the
Tao of Pooh in bookstores for years, and figured it was time to see what it was all about. I also have a passing interest in ancient Chinese philosophers, as the book on Confucius attests. As for the book on ESP, I attribute my interest there in my '70s upbringing, when it seemed like everyone was convinced that ESP was real and could easily be tapped into, like an auxiliary electrical socket. Remember how the '70s were filled with movies like
Carrie and
The Fury? How the media shapes our minds...
