PermaLink Thank you, Rob Novak03/21/2005 10:00 AM
Quickplace
My customer was experiencing problems with not being able to open several QuickPlaces this morning. When I went to one of the places using IE, I got this nifty response:

Your place is temporarily unavailable while maintenance is being performed

After performing a Google search on the above message, I was taken to this response from Rob Novak (hereafter known as the QuickPlace God). Thankfully, all that needed to be done was to load the unlock qptool via the Domino Server Console. It worked like a charm! Thank you, Rob!

PermaLink Bizarro Quickplace Error message01/03/2005 02:53 PM
Quickplace
A Quickplace user had reported that she could not access a page she had been sent a link to. When I tried to access it, I got the following "Unknown OS error" message:

Naturally, the user didn't have access to the room where this page resided. Now, wouldn't you have immediately known that, based on the error message returned by Quickplace???

PermaLink Created first production Quickplace today11/01/2004
Quickplace
I created my first production Quickplace today. I added 27 members, 9 groups and 7 rooms to the Quickplace. I created a custom form containing a MS Word attachment, as well as a folder that used this custom form as the default form. I then copied this custom form to each room in the Quickplace. Since you can't copy a folder to a room (ugh!), I recreated the folder in each room as well. In all, it probably took me 15-20 minutes to finish the Quickplace. I have to say that I was impressed at how easy the entire process is. I wonder if the process is better/worse/the same with the Lotus Workplace version of Quickplace...

PermaLink Received Quickplace Manager training today10/28/2004
Quickplace
I sat in on a training session my customer provides to employees who will be administrating Quickplaces. The session was delivered by one of my co-workers on the Notes team. I have to say I was impressed with how easy it is for QP administrators to add/change/delete users, create folders, add rooms, and so on. One warning that kept coming up in the session was to not use the browser's [Back] button during certain operations. For example, if you click on [Folder Options] and click on the browser's [Back] button, the [Folder Options] button you just clicked on becomes greyed out for everyone, even the Quickplace Doctor ID. Also, if you create a revision of a document and use the [Back] button, the revision becomes a "hidden" draft document that only the document's creator can see. So, when if someone tries to move the original document and all of its responses/children to another room/Quickplace, the move will copy some of the documents over but fail when it reaches the "hidden" draft document. As you can tell, the user attempting the move will probably try it several times before realizing there's a problem, resulting in duplicate documents in the target room/Quickplace. I think I need to become much more familiar with the ins and outs of Quickplace before I'll feel comfortable supporting them on a full-time basis.
